“Easter” or Passover? Are they even related?
The original Hebrew feast of “Pesach” was/is a commemoration of the deliverance of the Jews from Egypt. A key element in that process of deliverance was/is the blood of the animals that were sacrificed, which was put on the doorposts of their homes.
Pesach, translated as Passover, as a Feast of the Lord in the Old Testament was the “shadow” on earth, a prophetic forerunner, of the sacrifice of the Lamb of God, Jesus Christ, by whose Blood we have remission of Sin. That comes to effect in our lives if we believe in the message, which is the “Good News” of salvation by grace, and, accept the gift of God, which is the atonement that Jesus made for us by dying on the cross.
The death of Jesus on the cross was a priestly sacrifice, by which God offers now free justification to all who believe in the message of the Son of God who died for the sins of the world – that, whosoever believes in Him may not die but have everlasting life.
The message of the cross and the centrality on the person of Jesus is so great and of such grave importance that Ap. Paul said: 1 Corinthians 2:2 “I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified”.
The message of the Feast of Pesach/Passover for the New Testament believers is an invitation of God for us to pass-over from Death to Life, from Sin to Freedom, from Darkness to Light, from the lies and the Deception of the world to the Truth of God. Jesus is the “Passover Lamb”;
1 Corinthians 5:7 Therefore purge out the old leaven, that you may be a new lump, since you truly are unleavened. For indeed Christ, our Passover, was sacrificed for us.
Do “EASTER” and PASSOVER have anything in common? The very nature of the celebrations of Easter reveal that they have nothing to do with the Lamb of God who died on the cross for the remission of sin and the passing-over from Death to Life for those who believe, whose sins are atoned for and forgiven by God, thanks to the Blood of Jesus.
Where in “Easter” is there ANY reference to the person of Jesus?
Where in “Easter” is there ANY reference to the sacrifice of Jesus?
Where in “Easter” is there ANY reference to the BLOOD of Jesus? Where in “Easter” is there ANY reference to the remission of Sin?
Where in “Easter” is there ANY reference to the Gospel?
Those early Christian leaders who re-named the Feast of the Passover according to the pre-Christian pagan celebration of fertility, EOSTER, had a clear purpose; to separate the Christian religion from its original Hebrew roots and from the Gospel of the Kingdom of God which is in/through the Feast of Pesach.
By re-naming and re-purposing the celebrations at this time of the year, they successfully removed the message of the Passover, which is the heart of the Gospel. In renaming the Feast and the changing the focus of the celebrations, they offered an alternative cultural activity with vague reference to a religious Feast that would be easily acceptable among Christians.
This new Feast is void of any meaning, any substance, any message, and any power of God to save those who would believe. “Easter” does not communicate the message of the cross, the message of salvation, the message of the Kingdom of God.
The Feast of the Passover has nothing to do with procreation and fertility and is not about the pagan celebration of the spring.
When we recognize and realize that “Easter” has nothing in common with the Feast of the Passover, except that it was created by the powers of Darkness so that it could blind people to the Truth, we are called to make a choice and hopefully, a difference.
The choice we are called to make is if we shall continue to perpetuate the lie and promote the deception that is in the very word of “Easter” and through the nature of the celebrations of procreation and fertility.
Shall we continue to feed the lie? Or shall we also determine to know nothing except Jesus and Him crucified and stand firm to make a difference!
That is, to take a stand against the lies and the deception, and stand for the truth, and the message of the Cross that is in the Passover – which is Jesus, our Passover Lamb.
