Isaiah spoke about Jesus long before His birth. In chapter 53 he described Jesus, the Redeemer and Savior:

Isaiah 53:5 But He [was] wounded for our transgressions, [He was] bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace [was] upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed. 6 … the LORD has laid on Him the iniquity of us all. 7 … He was led as a lamb to the slaughter …

In the same book is another significant prophecy. Jesus declared in the Synagogue of Nazaret:

“Today this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing” (Luke 4:16-21).

Isaiah prophesied the work of the Holy Spirit that God gave to His Ecclesia.

Isaiah 61:1 “The Spirit of the Lord GOD [is] upon Me, Because the LORD has anointed Me To preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives, And the opening of the prison to [those who are] bound; 2 To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, And the day of vengeance of our God; To comfort all who mourn,

These are neither words that promote religion, nor a call to ritual liturgy in religious temples; these are words of conflict and battle. Do such words accurately describe the work of Jesus by the Holy Spirit?

Revelation 19:13 He [was] clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God. 14 And the armies in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, followed Him on white horses. 15 Now out of His mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it He should strike the nations. And He Himself will rule them with a rod of iron. He Himself treads the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. 16 And He has on [His] robe and on His thigh a name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.

This is no call to religious practices; this is an environment of conflict and war.

1 John 3:8 “For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil”.

If the purpose of His coming was to destroy, that is no religious ritual. Jesus confirms that He did not come to the earth to become a religious leader, or the subject of a romantic theology about Love, or to play the role of the good little Jesus in the arms of His caring Mother.

Luke 12:49 Fire I came to cast to the earth, and how I wish it were already kindled!

Many think of Jesus as a type of Ganti who came to bring peace to the earth. But Jesus plainly declared the exact opposite; let us continue reading His words from the same chapter:

Luke 12:50 “But I have a baptism to be baptized with, and how distressed I am till it is accomplished! 51 “Do [you] suppose that I came to give peace on earth? I tell you, not at all, but rather division.

52 “For from now on five in one house will be divided: three against two, and two against three. 53 “Father will be divided against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against her daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.”

That is too many “divided”, and even more “against”… hardly a religious leader, Jesus declared He came to cause trouble, conflict and battle.

God is also Love, but God’s Love is His motive for aggression against the forces of Darkness, and war to destroy the works of the devil, to set people free from captivity. God loves us too much to leave us captive and bound; because He is Love, He wants to set us free; that means war!

As we said in Isaiah 61 that is the very purpose that God put His Spirit upon Jesus; that is the Spirit that is now upon the Body of Jesus.

Isaiah 11:2 The Spirit of the LORD shall rest upon Him, the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel [alternative, NET: strategy] and might, the Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD.
The New English Translation explain this word can also mean “strategy”. The concept of “strategy” paired with “might” indicates Governmental authority and brings to memory the words of Isaiah 9:6:

“For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”

NET translates “Wonderful, Counselor” as Extraordinary Strategist.
